Key Buddhist Teachings

Join Devamitra as he explores the fundamental teachings of the Buddha: The Threefold Way, The Laksanas, Going for Refuge, Karma, and the Four Noble Truths.

01

The Three-Fold Way

The Three-Fold Way (or Path) is a simple model describing the whole Buddhist path - ethics, meditation, wisdom.

02

The Lakshanas: Impermenance, Suffering & No-Self

Impermanence, suffering, and no-self are the three fundamental characteristics of all things - that which marks the content of our experience. They reveal the transient and interconnected nature of existence, in which nothing of permenance and substantiality can be found.

03

Going for Refuge

Going for Refuge to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha is the central and definitive act of the Buddhist life and the unifying principle of Buddhism itself.

04

What is Karma?

Karma is a natural law which governs human consciousness, wherein actions performed for the benefit of oneself and others create happiness, and actions that harm cause suffering. It is what enables the dharma life to be possible - through skilful action, one produces the conditions for absorption and insight to flower.

05

The Four Noble Truths

This core Buddhist teaching outlines the contemplation of the nature of suffering, its cause, its cessation, and the path to freedom as a means of gaining wisdom into this universal aspect of the human experience.
